Connecting You: Deaf Camp's Interactive Web Experience

I’m thrilled to share a project I’ve been working on with LanguageFirst and Clerc Center/REAL. Together, we’ve curated a comprehensive list of immersion programs tailored for families looking to learn sign language and foster connections with their deaf and hard of hearing children. Additionally, we’ve crafted an extensive directory of camps specifically designed for this community. Within this Google Sheet, we’ve organized data ranging from day programs to overnight camps, even including options that cater to siblings or CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults). But here’s the twist: it’s not just a static spreadsheet. We’ve transformed this information into a visually engaging chart using Excel, adding a touch of interactivity to make the search process more enjoyable and efficient. As the web designer for this project, I wanted to ensure that accessing these resources was not only informative but also fun and accessible. Recognizing the time constraints faced by busy parents and children, I set out to create an interactive map that would allow users to quickly find what they need without the hassle of scrolling through endless text. After some research, I stumbled upon Unlimited Elements, a WordPress feature that perfectly suited our needs. With its help, I was able to develop an interactive map that integrates seamlessly with the Clerc Center’s platform. Now, users can explore immersion programs and camps with ease, making the journey to finding resources for their deaf and hard of hearing children both efficient and enjoyable.

I’m excited about the impact this project will have on families seeking support and connection, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful cause. We are continuously accepting submissions of deaf camps and immersion programs on Clerc Center’s website. Feel free to contribute or reach out if you need more informations.
